On Thursday, August 28 we spread awareness of our program at our school’s annual club fair. We handed out informational flyers and recruited prospective members as we demonstrated our 2014 FRC robot on stage and showcased our 2013 “Sack a Rice” FTC robot.

Students attend and browse some of the booths at the club fair.

On April 25, our team headed over to our local library to showcase our FRC and FTC robots as a part of the library’s annual STEM event. Children were able to drive our 2013 FTC robot around on a mini-field, and we brought a Sphero that younger kids could interact with through the use of an iPod. We also were able to talk to parents about philosophy behind FIRST and our upcoming summer STEM camp. We hope to do this again in the future; we all had a good time!

This is the second year that our team has participated in the Hawaii McDonald’s fundraiser. Like last year, every Egg McMuffin sandwich sold during Robotics week, March 17-23, one dollar will be given to Hawaii FIRST Robotics teams. On March 22, our team headed over to the Mililani Mauka McDonalds to showcase our FRC and FTC robots. The fundraiser brought in a record $40,666, which will be distributed among the 29 Hawaii FRC teams.

We had team members wave signs by the drive-through to tell people to buy Egg McMuffins and telling them about our program. Others were in the restaurant with the FTC and FRC robot which people could drive around. Many children enjoyed driving around the robot and were amazed to see the things that we, as students, were able to achieve. This event was a lot of fun; we got to talk to people to tell them about the robotics programs that Mililani offers and showcase what we have been working so hard on.

McDonalds of Hawaii held a fundraiser event for Hawaii FIRST Robotics teams: For each Egg McMuffin sold during Robotics Week, $1 will go towards FRC teams who will split the final total raised throughout the McDonald’s in the state. To participate in this event we were required to do an in-store demonstration at a local McDonalds, showcasing our team and the FIRST program to the public. During our spring break, we went to our local Kipapa McDonalds and brought our FRC robot for people to drive. Children had fun using the robot to get through obstacles such as pushing a ping pong ball from a chair into a cup.  We also talked to people to tell them what we do in this program. The McDonalds munchies were also yummy!
